reaching out to fellow chicago ‘foodies’ (hate that word) out there:
anyone know some high-end “purist” japanese sushi spots in the city?

TOP 2 THINGS I’M LOOKING FOR…

  • a large omakase nigiri selection, preferably with salmon belly on the menu
  • WASABI FROM THE ROOT not that fake horseradish crap died green served at 99% of restaurants

and if someone suggests sunshine or renga tei again, i’m gon’ flip. they do not serve either of the 2, i only go there for homestyle japanese… for the gazillionth time!

IS THERE EVEN A PLACE?

craving sushi bad. but don’t want to sit here and yelp/google things to be disappointed yet again. unagi sauce and tempura flakes have their place, but not for this craving.

don’t get what i mean by ‘purist’? read this. an old article, but gets the point across.

chicago, i fucking love the shit outta you, but i have yet to find a real favorite sushi spot here. can anybody send me in the right direction, please?

you know i’m a music snob. i am also a food snob. get over it.(got it from my papa… i love him)
ahmed is the greatest gay waiter ever. thanks for suggesting the sunny side on this, made a HUGE difference!
