why eileen needed a win today.
if you saw monday’s episode of himym, you get the title’s reference to subway wars and how each character “needed a win” that day. so i shall englighten you all with a bulletpointed story as to how today eventually turned out for the better (despite the bulls losing to the mavs, of course). the events of 10/15/2010:
- slept thru the alarm clock
- stuck with a cold shower because of something going funky with the water heater
- burned myself with my straightener
- couldn’t find my car keys
- had to play mediator between the parental units
- drove halfway to work only to realize i forgot the store keys
- drove back home
- got badgered going out the door
- stuck in MAD traffic on the way back
- while waiting in this traffic i read something that made me sad, which pretty much set the tone for my mood throughout most of the day (something someone said about someone… i’ll leave it at that)
- let’s just say it made me feel like how robin was when she ripped up the all those posters on the train and the last one ended up being one with don… and then she went crazy
- literally opened the store a minute before 10am
- was all kinds of off at work (dropping faceouts, using whiteout on all paperwork, bumping into fixtures)
- girl we were hoping to maybe fill my position never came in to talk to me or nikki (le sigh)
- left half an hour early and still got stuck in some of the worst traffic i’ve experienced in chicago in a while
- listened to AM 1000 the whole way down to the city, game sounded super intense (bogans and deng were draining everything!), cursing the world that we’re wasting good-ass 100 level seats
- realized i forgot to get cash to pay for parking, had to detour to an ATM
- made it to the game before the end of the 2nd quarter
- …only to find out the tickets we bought off stubhub didn’t work
- had to walk back around to the gate 4 area to figure out what was up
- by the time we finally got to the counter, lady tells us we have to find a way to contact both stubhub and the season ticket holder who sold the ticket to us because apparently the dude already printed the ticket which voided the copy we had
- at this point she tells us we can’t get into the game without the ticket holder’s consent
- she then flags us down to tell us that they’re actually closing up the ticket windows soon
- on the phone with stubhub customer service… automated systems, you figure out
- eventually got to talk to a living being, got tossed around, then someone got the clue to contact their manager (geebus…)
- manager person apologized numerous times, puts us on hold and tries to contact the guy
- ticket windows close so at this point even if we wanted to we couldn’t even buy nosebleed 300 level seats
- we’re back from being on hold, stubhub manager had no luck contacting the guy
- manager conceded to offering us a full refund since we missed most of the game
- pissed that we just paid 20 bucks for parking for a game we wouldn’t even watch
- on our way out, some kids walking by, also on their way out: ey, want free tickets? and dumps an envelope of nosebleed tickets in our hands
- while this was happening we were still on the phone with the guy from stubhub, he suggests to take the nosebleeds and just walk over to the seats we were supposed to be in anyway, and maybe we’d get thru
so the story? i got my win. after a crazy day, all the being upset moments — even the repressed sadness & jealousy from the past 1-2 months that surfaced in the morning — made a difference.
why? if you don’t get what just happened in the last bulletpoint, we got refunded our money for the tickets and got in because of some miracle gesture by some random kids, and still sat in 100 level (are you following? yes, we watched for free). and although the bulls lost, when we finally sat down during the 3rd the game was so close, the crowd was pumped and we enjoyed ourselves. that was an awesome game to be at.
i say we could’ve won after deng’s 3-pointer & johnson’s dunk in the last seconds of the 4th, if it wasn’t for that damned loose ball call (which i think was bullshit). later rose’s 3-pointer 1.6 seconds before the end of the 4th to kick us into OT was one of the best things to witness. i’m very happy with their preseason thus far — their defense has far improved. minus all those turnovers and sending the mavs to the line! nearly 38 times, that’s crazy. man, i can’t wait for 2010-2011 basketball! just one more week.
so…….. thank you for giving me a win today, world — i needed it!
(i feel like robin scherbatsky when she made it back to the bar!)
